On March 18, 2020 the CSU will hold its second annual GALA at the prestigious Century Association in midtown New York. This event celebrates the achievement of individuals that have contributed to the mission of the CSU, fosters increased action in support of the SDGs, especially SDG 11, and provides the resources to create programs and disseminate information generated by CSU activities.
This year the CSU is both pleased and honored to confer awards upon Shaun Donovan, 15th Secretary of the United States Department of Housing and Urban Development, Helena Durst, Principal of the Durst Organization, Alexandria Villaseñor, the 14 year old Fridays for Future Leading Organizer and Founder of Earth Uprising, and Claire Weisz, FAIA, Principal-in-Charge, W X Y architecture + urban design. The program will once again be introduced by UN-Habitat Executive Director H.E. Ms. Maimunah Mohd Sharif and UN-Habitat’s New York Office Director Christopher Williams.
The inaugural Gala held in March 2019 celebrated five significant individuals: H.E. Dr. Talal Abu-Ghazaleh, Chairman and Founder of the international Jordan-based organization, the Talal Abu–Ghazaleh Organization; Robert L. Geddes, FAIA, Princeton School of Architecture Dean Emeritus; Dianne Davis, founding President of the nonprofit International Council for Caring Communities (ICCC); Jonathan Marvel, FAIA, LEED, Marvel Architects’ founding principal; and Jeffrey D. Sachs, Director of Columbia Center for Sustainable Development. By all accounts the 2019 event that sold out early was a totally informative, enjoyable, lively, and successful opportunity to meet new and old colleagues, hear from individuals expert in pursuit of sustainable urbanization, and reaffirm our collective commitment to a sustainable future.
